n5MD is an American label, owned and operated by Mike Cadoo, originally of the post-industrial group Gridlock, who now records under two aliases, Bitcrush and Dryft.
The label's tagline - "emotional experiments in music" - encapsulates Cadoo's philosophy behind the label. n5MD releases experimental music that has an emotional connection. The label has expanded its horizons and gone beyond its purely electronic origins to include post-rock and shoegaze.
Ultimae is a French label, based in Lyon, established and run by Vincent Villuis and Sandrine Gryson (otherwise known as Sunbeam). Together, they also record as Aes Dana.
The Ultimae label has a has a readily identifiable character, falling squarely in the psybient camp - atmospheric and deep ambient soundscapes, impeccable sound design, with elements of morning trance at times. An Ultimae record will take you on a hypnotic journey unlike any other.
Notable artists include, in addition to Aes Dana, Solar Fields, Carbon Based Lifeforms, H.U.V.A. Network (Vincent Villuis and Magnus Birgersson, a.k.a. Solar Fields), Asura and Hol Baumann. The label has a strong Swedish connection, with both Solar Fields and the duo who make up Carbon Based Lifeforms coming from there.
